It's the simple things that count...
In 1949, a young man set out on a camping trip with his family, unaware that his idea would change camping for generations. Frustrated with the energy sources of the time, he developed a compact, refillable gas cylinder: practical, economical, and easy to use. Thus, Campingaz® was born – freeing outdoor life from its previous limitations.
This tradition continues to give rise to innovative products that redefine outdoor life – whether on the beach, at the campsite, in the garden, or in the mountains. With each decade, new, groundbreaking ideas have been added. And with our passion for the outdoors, we will continue this legacy into the future.
Campingaz...
...offers a wide range of products from many outdoor categories: Camping Stoves, Plancha Griddles, Gas Grills, Electric Grills, Coolers
COLEMAN
Our story began in 1899 , on a cold winter day in Alabama. A young typewriter salesman named William Coffin Coleman was out visiting customers when he spotted an incredibly bright lantern in a store window. Powered by compressed gasoline, it had a mantle (instead of a wick) that burned brightly and evenly. Coleman was so impressed by the lamp's ingenuity that he quickly agreed to sell it for the inventors.
However, he soon discovered that not everyone shared his enthusiasm for this clever new product. Apparently
The reputation of gasoline-powered lanterns had suffered, and most people were afraid of taking the risk of investing in another good idea.
The secret of good service
But Coleman was sure: There had to be a solution. As he pondered this, an old sales rule came to mind:
First and foremost, the performance of a product must be sold, not the Product itself. That's it!
He would prove the lantern's reliability by offering a lighting rental service that included maintenance and refills. The Hydro-Carbon Light Company was born, and soon after, Coleman's lanterns were illuminating windows throughout the city.
Over the years, Coleman improved the design, making the lantern leak-proof and easier to clean. He eventually acquired the patent, renamed the lamp the Arc Lamp, and moved the company headquarters to Wichita, Kansas.
Production in the spirit of war
The outbreak of World War II had a profound impact on our company's history. American industry was reorganized to support the war effort, and Coleman's production was no exception.
We were commissioned to develop military equipment, such as a reliable, compact stove that would work with any liquid fuel and at any temperature.
Our mechanics worked around the clock and created the Model 520 Pocket Stove, later nicknamed the GI Pocket Stove.
Wartime innovations cemented our reputation for reliable equipment and paved the way for some of Coleman's most iconic products.
Innovations for generations
In the decades following the war, Coleman evolved into the outdoor company people know and love today. We remained true to WC Coleman's ingenuity and consistently pursued innovation.
In the 1950s, we revolutionized outdoor dining with portable, plastic-lined coolers and later expanded our product range to include tents, chairs, and sleeping bags.
All our products are based on a simple goal: to enable and inspire people to spend time outdoors. We have realized this goal over the years with numerous technologies and innovations.
In the 1990s, we were the first to introduce tents with sealed seams and, from 2000 onwards, we used fire-retardant materials across the board.
In 2016, we changed camping with our patented BlackOut Bedroom technology, which is now featured in many best-selling tents, providing a dark, comfortable sleeping environment – any time of day.
Our future in the Newell family
Today, Coleman is part of the Newell Group, and our products have found their way from Wichita to destinations all over the world. While remaining true to WC Coleman's original entrepreneurial spirit and innovative spirit, we continue our mission to make the outdoors a place for everyone.
So, what are you waiting for?
